James Jacques-Joseph Tissot was born in 1836, in Nantes in a seaport on the French coast. He was a French painter and illustrator. His father, Marcel Th�odore Tissot, was a successful drapery merchant. His mother, Marie Durand, assisted her husband in the family business and designed hats. Both devout Catholics, Tissot's mother instilled pious devotion in the future artist from a very young age. The Bible say's "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." His Christian training would later be the catalyst for his most successful and prolific series of work, illustrating the 'Holy Bible.' (cont)

Awesome, thoughtful portrayals but best viewed on a large monitor, not a tablet or laptop.

This is a great collection of paintings (all gouache on canvas) by James Tissot of selected events depicted in the Old Testament. The paintings all provide an interesting perspective of the events portrayed and are beautifully done. The only issue I have with this work is that the paintings only take up maybe 30% of the page when I went through the book on my iPad Air, making the paintings very small and very hard to see some the details. I imagine that on a much larger screen, such as a 27-inch monitor, they would be spectacular but I have not had an opportunity yet to try that.
Also, a good part of the entire volume, about the last 15% portion of the volume when viewed on Kindle, is taken up with lists of museums and the like that does not add to the collection or necessarily an appreciation of it.

Nicely done, clear pictures, nice collection of Tissot's work. A good compliment to James Tissot: The Ministry, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ with Verse - 300 Watercolor Paintings - New Testament Kindle Edition-purchased at the same time . Inexpensive ($2.99) or free with Kindle unlimited.
