Great Book!!!

I will start off by saying I am a self confessed fitness book freak. I just love reading books about health and fitness. I have spent a small fortune over the years here on Amazon, and through the old brick and mortar stores on books.
In my experience, its very much a mixed bag. They all proclaim they going to tell them the big "secret" or help you "unlock" your hidden awesomeness or some such stuff, but many fail to deliver anything of substance.
Some are just filled with pics of fitness models and chains looking all intense... lol
This book right here taught me more about proper training, programming, technique, AND nutrition than all the Mens health mags and books combined!
Mark's book is a gem of knowledge in more ways than one. I found it of value for people looking to be just healthier in general, not just soccer (football) players.
He touches on very important parts of the holistic nature of being strong, fast, and powerful. For example, sleep and nutrition. Goes in depth on how to sleep better as well as proper pre-game nutrition and post game nutrition. Many people do not have a problem sleeping, but trust me, if you're not catching your zzzzzzz's, you are not performing at your best. I myself have struggled with sleep my whole life, some of these tips def helped.
Also, he lays out detailed loading parameters WITH de-loading parameters in all phases of preparation. Really cleared some stuff up for me and made me rethink some of my programming. But then again, this guy is an Olympic level coach with decades of experience at the highest competitive level.
Goes into proper rehab and prehab methods, in season and out of season training, age specific training from small child to adult, and takes the time to explain the what, when, where, why, and how of things instead of just saying "this is what you do"
Unlike many other books, Mark took the time to include multi-pic demonstrations of each movement/lift. I mean EACH one. Its not a fitness model doing them, its actually him showing the proper method with detailed cues.
This alone makes the book worth the money.
The fact that he takes the time at the end of each section to explain why to do these things is truly a big help. Its all laid out in straight forward language and he even includes a part at the back with common definitions to make it all crystal clear. There are of course, pages of info on training for speed, explosiveness, different types of stretching, relative strength, maximal strength, etc... all the performance qualities you want to improve in sport.
Its not often I am compelled to write a book review on here, but this one really helped me. There are SO many fitness books out there now a days, and it can be difficult to sort through all the mess to find a gem. This here is a no brainer, get the book, its obviously written by a guy that is passionate about what he does and conveys his knowledge without any pomp and circumstance. Not just for soccer players, for anyone interested in health and fitness. For soccer coaches? I think it should be required reading.

Good concept, needs editing

I can't recommend for purchase (free with Amazon Prime thankfully). The book is in desperate need of an independent professional edit.
The author begins by claiming the book will be simple and practical, but the first 40% suffers being neither as it repeats points and paragraphs needlessly (which is tedious given the syntax and typos). With the failure to deliver on developing the context of a practical guide, it reads more like sitting in a lecture hall (which fails on the promise to read and be able to take to the pitch).
The acronyms and technical terms are endless, despite the promise to be "asap" (as simple as possible). There are numerous and unfamiliar references to muscles before there is even a specific mention of what a player is told with respect to training some of them. There is a lack of consistent presentation - being overly technical with some terms, less with others, use of examples/evidence/support (the author references his study of different positions to note different demands and rest periods in games as the basis for claims about different training needs, but the study's results aren't revealed and training examples aren't provided in this context; similarly, calf exercises are mentioned, similar examples not provided elsewhere in the same format within the outline of muscle groups).
If you don't have access to an elaborate weight room, you might not feel practical application is achievable.
The writer is generally very knowledgeable of the subject matter, but with the assistance of a quality editor, could deliver a much more useful resource to players and coaches.

Simple to understand training program

As a soccer coach i have been looking for a book like this for a while. Read the book in a day and built a strength and speed program from what i read.
