But to touch the mountain at the bottom was as fatal as climbing to the top (Heb. 12:18-21). The unity of the Mosaic law leaves only two alternatives―either complete deliverance from or complete subjection to the entire system. Classic book on law vs. grace for the Christian life

"Holding Fast to Grace" is a classic treatment of the contrast between law and grace in the Christian life. It demonstrates from Scripture that the Mosaic Law can neither justify a sinner before God nor sanctify the saint. This book shows that the believer in this present dispensation is not under any portion of the Law of Moses, including the 10 Commandments, as his or her rule of life. Instead, a holy and moral life that is pleasing to God comes only by means of God's Holy Spirit and grace, which is an even higher standard of righteousness than the Mosaic Law.

Here is one sample quotation from page 53 of this timeless classic: "No modern legalist wants to climb to the top of Mount Sinai with its fire and thunder but many think it is a good thing to take a short hike up its foothills. But to touch the mountain at the bottom was as fatal as climbing to the top (Heb. 12:18-21). The unity of the Mosaic law leaves only two alternatives--either complete deliverance from, or complete subjection to the entire system. It will be shown that the first of these alternatives is clearly taught in the New Testament."

The author, Dr. Roy L. Aldrich, was a member of the first graduating class of Dallas Theological Seminary. He received the school's first Master of Theology degree before completing his doctoral studies under the tutelage of Lewis Sperry Chafer. Afterwards, Aldrich was a pastor for 15 years before founding the Detroit Bible College (later renamed William Tyndale College) and serving as its president.

After "Holding Fast to Grace" was initially published in 1962, it was very favorably reviewed and highly regarded by prominent dispensationalists and theological journals.

Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary, Dr. Robert P. Lightner, stated, "This book is highly recommended. Aldrich carefully distinguishes the Mosaic Law from the moral law of God."

The reviewer for the Grace Journal in 1963 said, "It is well written, with helpful documentation for those interested in the writer's sources of information. Dr. Aldrich has the ability to state his case clearly and to the point. . . . therein lies one of its values; it can be placed into the hands of laymen who have problems regarding legalism. The first chapter is of a devotional nature, showing how freedom from the law has a practical effect upon the Christian's life. There are at least two illustrations in this section well worth the price of the book. `Holding Fast to Grace' is a welcomed addition to this reviewer's library."

In 1962 Dr. Earl Radmacher wrote the following review for Dallas Seminary's quarterly journal, Bibliotheca Sacra. "The perennial problem of attempting to reconcile the antithetical errors of legalism and license is met in this thoroughly Biblical and lucid study by Dr. Aldrich, President of the Detroit Bible College. Realizing that "the most persistent and widespread and deadly error of all Bible history is legalism," he sets out to demonstrate that both justification and sanctification are wholly apart from the law. The first chapter is a veritable gold mine of treasured nuggets collected from the writings of holy men of God. This many-faceted concatenation of brief quotations spells out the secret of walking with the Lord under grace. Having set forth this guard against license, the writer vividly demonstrates the contemporary confusion of law and grace. The heart of the problem is seen in the variety of uses of "law" in the Scripture. Many people, failing to recognize these distinctions, confuse the moral law and the Mosaic law. The moral law, "has always existed and is the essence of the will of God for every dispensation"; whereas, the Mosaic law was simply an expression of the moral law which was given as a rule of life to Israel alone in the nature of a covenant. Aldrich cites convincing Scriptural testimony to the effect that the Mosaic system has been done away or abolished. This can give no encouragement to the antinomian, however, for all of the moral principles of the law do reappear in the New Testament in the framework of grace which calls for nothing less than conformity to the character of God. "This is as far from antinomianism as heaven is far above the earth.""

Another Winner!!

Dan Walsh is gifted with the pen. His words leave me breathless at times. When I open a book penned by Dan I know I'm in for a rich blessing. I too know when I close the last page I'm going to be left wanting more.

I am seriously blown away by the novels Dan pens. He is truly a gifted storyteller. This is one of those novels that stays with you after you have closed the last page. He gives the reader so much to think about. Life lessons are grown throughout the pages. The story begins and you know without a doubt you are about to embark on a journey no one else is able to provide.

This novel is rich. The characters are undeniably relatable. The story begins in 1962. I wasn't even born yet, but Dan is able to bring me back in time to a place that has left a mark in history forever.

I loved, "What Follows After". The title and cover are so telling. This is another inviting novel that I couldn't put down. This is an emotional read. One that enters the heart of family. What we allow others to see and what we would rather keep secret. But as we see, nothing is off limits. The more we try to cover up the more the Lord moves to uncover so healing and freedom may come.

We learn what really matters. We learn to let go of the seemingly important of the world and grasp a hold of the real and lasting. Yes! This is why I love novels penned by Dan Walsh. He takes the reader on a journey and you come out with a new perspective and appreciation for what really matters.

Walsh is book-category indistinct; other than "PRETTY DARN GOOD"

`What Follows After' is a family situation bizarre in 1962 yet readily believable today. Dan Walsh writes a story of one Florida family emergency pinnacle happening at the same time as the Cuban Missile Crisis unfolds. Me being a high school student at that time, I can remember the stress shared by all Americans. Walsh has written that anxiety and more into his novel. Fast paced and tense reading.
With a story setting in Florida with all its water features, it stands to reason the mystery contains numerous "red herrings" for the FBI to investigate. Engaging suspense; at times so intense it twisted every ounce of compassion from this reader's heart.

Dan Walsh again turns a fictional novel into a story that necessitates intellectual thought. Not preachy, but perhaps lessons to be learned - and inspiration gained. A Christian book that reaches beyond the borders of a single faith/religion.
Readers from 14 to grandpas [like me] will be re-prioritizing life choices after the final pages.

Absolutely Outstanding! His Best Yet!

I love to read a Dan Walsh novel. It seems as if he just knows how to tug on your heart strings.

I finished this book in less than 24 hours, heart pounding the last few chapters, too.

Gina and Scott Harrison have been separated for 10 months but they're pretending to everyone they know, acting married at school and family functions. They've also instructed their 2 sons to lie and pretend, too.

Colt and Timmy decide to run away and make their parents see how much they should be together. Only things go horribly wrong. Scott and Gina must come face to face with the life they've created for these boys.

No more from me, don't want to spoil this book for you.

This is one of Dan Walsh's best books, in my opinion. I was crying, yelling, cheering at different points of this book.

The theme running throughout this book is tht God can use bad situations to grow His children, even work it out for their own good.

The secondary characters are just wonderful also. They seemed like treasured friends at the end of the book.

This is an amazing book and I'm so glad I had the chance to read it. If you don't, you'll miss a blessing.

This is a phenomenal resource book. I have been modeling for about 7 years and find myself learning new stuff all the time. I have always struggled with the face of characters and bringing them to life. I tend to see a lot of plastic skin models and wanted to learn how NOT to do that. :) My prayers have been answered in the form of this book. It's filled with lots of information, it's not a wordy read but if you were to try and fail each of these steps you will realize the benefit of someone sharing a successful pipeline. It covers all the bases for a 3D skin reference including normal maps, cavity maps, skin hues etc.. If you are a novice and

2. Know nothing about texturing
You wont reap the full benefits of this book.

For character modelers who want to go pro

[[VIDEOID:33623441]]Creative Essence is a series of advance "how-to" books on bringing 3D characters to life. Future titles will look at other aspects of the characters, like modeling, rigging, clothing, etc.

First of all, the goal of this book is to create a photo-realistic face. The tutorials in the book follows a picture-description format throughout. There are plenty of screenshots showing the workflow. The subjects cover the initial photography, modeling, texturing and rendering.

The main bulk of the book is really on texturing and rendering. Right at the back are additional lessons on creating bruising and aging on the model.

The good thing about the book is that the instructions are pretty detailed. They are also very high level requiring the reader to be a relatively advanced 3D user in the first place. Some of the artists involved have developed their own software tools to build more functionality into the default software set.

There are several software used, such as Maya, 3D Max, ZBrush, FaceFen, etc. So unless you already have these in place, it is a pretty pricey setup just to learn to create a photo-realistic model.

Unfortunately, the book doesn't come with the DVD, which must be bought additionally.

I would recommend this book to professional users whose job requires them to create such highly realistic models.

If you're looking to get started in facial modeling, check out Stop Staring: Facial Modeling and Animation Done Right. It's a great book suitable for beginners up to advanced level 3D users.
